NDIS Services

Learn more about who can help you with services in the NDIS, what Focus Care can offer you, and what NDIS assistive technology is.

Who is who when I deal with the NDIS?

Through your journey with the NDIS, there are many different people that you will interact with. Below are the definitions of a few key people that may support you through your NDIS journey.

LAC (Local Area Coordinator)

A Local Area Coordinator (LAC) works on behalf of the NDIS.

They will help create, implement, and review your NDIS plan.

“I will contact my LAC when my NDIS plan is about to end, or if I’m concerned about my funding.”

Support Coordinator

Support Coordination may be funded as apart of your NDIS plan (learn more about NDIS funding).

They will support you to achieve your goals, and link you to relevant service providers.

“I will contact my Support Coordinator when I need support finding allied health services, or to join group activities in my area.”

Disability Coordinator

A Disability Coordinator will be assigned to you from your chosen service provider.

They are responsible for scheduling and monitoring Support Worker services, such as personal care and transport.

“I will contact my Disability Coordinator if I need to cancel or extend a service.”

Support Worker

A Support Worker will be allocated from your chosen service provider.

They can assist you with daily activities, such as personal care, transport, social support, and domestic assistance.

“My Support Worker visits me to assist me with grocery shopping and driving me to and from my medical appointments.”

What is NDIS Assistive Technology?

Anyone with an NDIS plan can buy low-cost assistive tech, which is funded through the Core Supports aspect of your plan. Anything that costs under $1500 is considered low cost. Mid cost ranges from $1500 to $5000, and anything over $5000 is considered high-cost Assistive Technology.

Examples of low-cost assistive tech includes a medication dispenser, dementia clock, iPad, or personal alarm.

High-cost assistive tech needs to be assessed by the NDIS. In most cases, the process of acquiring high-cost assistive tech is through an occupational therapist. Examples of this include a wheelchair, guide dog, or home modifications to improve accessibility.

Your Occupational Therapist will complete a report that then gets sent to the NDIA, and is approved on a case-by-case basis.

It is also worth mentioning that the tech itself doesn’t come out of your budget, but using an Occupational Therapist to obtain this tech does.
