Meet James, Focus Care's New Physiotherapist

26 May, 2026

This month we're welcoming our new physiotherapist James to the team.

The team at Focus Care is excited to welcome our newest member, James! James is a physiotherapist who's passionate about helping people make meaningful, measurable progress in their everyday lives. He's originally from the UK where he worked with performers on the West End and is also an avid op-shopper! We're pleased to be able to add his expertise to the allied health services we offer at Focus Care. This month we wanted to ask James a bit about himself so the whole Focus Care family can get to know him a little better.

Hi James thanks for chatting with us. First of all, what were you doing before you joined Focus Care?

I’m a senior physiotherapist with over 7 years of clinical experience, with a strong focus on supporting individuals with musculoskeletal and complex needs.

My work has included hands-on clinical care across a range of settings, including community care, in-patient neurological rehabilitation, urgent care, outpatient MSK practice, and theatre-based physiotherapy—supporting performers across London’s West End shows.

What motivates you professionally in your work as a Physiotherapist?

I’m motivated by helping people make meaningful, measurable progress in their everyday lives—whether that’s improving mobility, reducing pain, or increasing independence at home.

I’m also passionate about building physiotherapy services that truly work for participants. For me, it’s not just about individual sessions, but about creating clear, structured pathways that support people to achieve their goals in a sustainable way.

I believe that growth is something we actively create through the right support, consistency, and planning.

What does good Physiotherapy support look like to you?

For me, good physiotherapy support is clear, structured, and focused on outcomes that matter to the participant.

It should include:
• A thorough initial assessment and clear goal setting
• A defined plan with measurable progress milestones
• Education and practical strategies to build confidence and long-term independence

• Regular review and adjustment as needed
• A clear discharge plan that focuses on long-term sustainability, not just short-term treatment

Ultimately, good physiotherapy helps participants feel more in control of their health and confident in their ability to move and function in their day-to-day life. To me, that's what it's really about.

What can participants expect when working with you for the first time?

When working with me for the first time, you can expect a supportive and structured session focused on understanding your individual needs and goals.

I’ll take the time to get to know what’s important to you, what you’re finding challenging, and how things are currently affecting your day-to-day life.

This typically includes:
• A detailed discussion about your current challenges and goals
• A movement and functional assessment
• A clear explanation of findings in plain language
• Collaborative goal setting
• A tailored plan outlining next steps

My aim is to ensure you feel comfortable, informed, and confident about the plan moving forward from the very first session. There’s no expectation to “perform” - this first session is about understanding where you’re starting from and what matters most to you.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I’ve recently moved to Sydney from the UK, and this community role has been a great opportunity to get to know the city and local community. I’m also on a bit of a personal mission to explore the best op shops Sydney has to offer.

Thanks James!

No problems, thank you.
